Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

The second chapter of the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy takes Cloud and the party out of Midgar and across a vast open world — from the Grasslands to the Forgotten Capital — chasing Sephiroth through fourteen chapters of action combat, Synergy team-ups, sprawling region activities, and a card game you'll lose hours to.

Party members 7 entries

Seven playable fighters, each with a distinct role. You'll rotate three into your active party; build each one's materia and Folio around their strengths. (Cid and Vincent appear in the story but are not playable in Rebirth.)

Cloud Strife Balanced melee all-rounder — swap between fast Operator stance and heavy Punisher stance Stance-swap; non-MP sword arts like Firebolt Blade and Triple Slash
Barret Wallace Ranged tank — highest HP and Defence; hits airborne and distant foes reliably Overcharge (big gun blast, fast ATB); Lifesaver to draw aggro and shield allies
Tifa Lockhart Fast close-range bruiser — highest Speed; chains hits to ramp stagger damage Unbridled Strength (upgrades her combo); Whirling Uppercut for air and staggered foes
Aerith Gainsborough Premier spellcaster and healer — holds range and zones with wide-area magic Arcane Ward (doubles spells cast from inside it); Radiant/Lustrous Ward protection
Red XIII All-rounder — builds a Vengeance gauge by guarding, then enters an empowered mode Vengeance Mode (boosted attack/speed, fast stagger); Sidewinder and self-healing strikes
Yuffie Kisaragi Agile ranged-and-melee ninja — imbues her weapon to exploit elemental weaknesses Elemental Ninjutsu (swap fire/ice/lightning/wind); Doppelganger damage-mirroring clone
Cait Sith Gimmick/support — fights with a summonable Moogle mount and luck-based dice Moogle Mount (ride/shield/aerial); dice rolls and Moogle Magic for random buffs
Combat systems 7 entries

The mechanics behind every fight — learn these and the bosses fall in line.

ATB gauge Real-time action fills an ATB gauge through attacks and blocks; spend segments to slow time and issue abilities, magic, and items. Carried over from Remake.
Synergy Skills Free paired moves with no ATB cost (boost a partner, build pressure). Using them charges the Synergy gauge toward an Ability.
Synergy Abilities Big two-character team-ups that cost ATB to trigger — heavy damage plus strong effects (raise Limit level, extend stagger, free MP, extra ATB). Unlocked through the Folio trees.
Stagger & Pressure Damage fills a stagger gauge; reaching it Staggers the enemy for a big-damage window. Exploiting weaknesses causes Pressure, which makes the gauge climb faster.
Limit Breaks A Limit gauge fills as you take and deal damage; full, it unleashes a powerful Limit Break. Synergy Abilities can temporarily raise the available Limit level mid-fight.
Materia Orbs slotted into weapons and armour in five colours: Magic (green) spells, Command (yellow) abilities, Support (blue) to link with other materia, Summon (red) to call summons, Independent (purple) passives. Materia levels up with AP.
Folios (skill trees) Per-character boards bought with SP from levelling — unlock new weapon abilities, stat boosts, non-MP elemental skills, and each character's Synergy Skills and Abilities. Replaces Remake's weapon-upgrade system.
World Intel activities (Chadley) 8 entries

The repeatable region activities that fill the map, level your materia, and unlock summons. Towers first, always.

Remnawave Towers (Activation Intel) Activate the old towers to reveal the regional map and flag every other World Intel point — always do these first.
Lifesprings (Expedition Intel) Follow the cues to hidden magical springs that unlock pieces of the region's lore.
Summon Shrines (Divine Intel) Find three shrines per region to weaken and unlock that region's summon (Titan, Phoenix, Alexander, and more) for the Combat Simulator.
Fiend Intel Short skirmishes against special enemy variants, logged for Chadley and fought via the Combat Simulator.
Classified / Excavation Intel Dig up buried items on chocoboback for crafting recipes and materials, plus rare regional hunts.
Protorelic (Phenomenon Intel) A multi-part questline per region that culminates in a unique Protorelic reward.
Chocobo Intel Track and catch each region's unique chocobo through a stealth-pursuit minigame.
Moogle Intel Find Mogstools and play a moogle-catching minigame to raise Chocobo Emporium stock.
Open-world regions 9 entries

The explorable regions and the chapter each opens in. Each has its own tower, intel set, summon, and chocobo with a unique traversal trick.

Grasslands The first open region, around Kalm and the Chocobo Ranch — your introduction to Chadley and World Intel. Chapter 2
Junon Coastal beaches and marshes leading to Under Junon and the cannon-city, with the parade set-piece. Chapter 3–4
Corel The largest span — desert and mountains housing Costa del Sol and the Gold Saucer. Chapter 6
Gongaga Dense jungle with mushroom-springboard traversal and Zack/reactor story beats. Chapter 9
Cosmo Canyon Red XIII's homeland — canyon terrain tied to planet lore and the Gi. Chapter 10
Nibel The mountains around Nibelheim, central to the Sephiroth flashback and Mt. Nibel. Chapter 11
Meridian Ocean Open-ocean traversal that connects the regions once the world fully opens. Chapter 13
Costa del Sol (hub) Seaside resort in Corel with beach minigames and downtime. Chapter 6
Gold Saucer (hub) The amusement-park hub in Corel — the densest cluster of minigames in the game. Chapter 8
Major minigames 9 entries

Rebirth is stuffed with minigames — these are the big ones. Many feed side-quest progress and rewards.

Queen's Blood The deep collectible card game played against opponents all over the world — has its own questline.
Chocobo content Catch each region's chocobo, then use mounts with special traversal (gliding, climbing, water).
Fort Condor A tower-defence strategy minigame placing units to defend the fort.
Gears & Gambits An auto-battler where you program robots' behaviour gambits to clear waves.
Piano A rhythm minigame matching notes with the sticks to earn ranks and rewards.
3D Brawler A timing-based boxing minigame (e.g. against Jules), reworked to be fairer than the original.
Chocobo Racing Gold Saucer racing — pop balloons and use techniques to place first.
Cactuar Crush A musou-style arena where each party member mows down waves of cactuars.
Galactic Saviors An arcade-style space shooter in the Gold Saucer.
Queen's Blood — the card game 4-step chain → Unique cards, strong combat rewards, and a dedicated cross-country questline

Reward: Unique cards, strong combat rewards, and a dedicated cross-country questline · From Chapter 2 Link

  1. The board A three-row board. Build a 15-card deck and draw an opening hand of five.
  2. Placing cards Each tile holds pawns. You can only play a card where the pawn rank meets its cost — and every card you place adds pawns to adjacent tiles, opening up higher-rank plays.
  3. Scoring Each card has a Power value. When the board fills, you win each row where your total Power beats your opponent's, and the higher combined Power across the three rows takes the match.
  4. Why bother A deep optional minigame with its own progression — collect stronger cards across the world, beat ranked opponents, and pursue a dedicated questline, earning unique cards and rewards.

Chapter 1

Fall of a Hero

Tutorial combatSephirothNibelheim
Objectives
  1. Relive the mission to Nibelheim with Sephiroth and the SOLDIERs
  2. Learn the basics of ATB, abilities, and Synergy in guided fights
  3. Climb Mt. Nibel to the Mako reactor and witness the truth
  4. Survive the night the town burned

Golden path

  1. The game opens on Cloud recounting the Nibelheim mission to the party at Kalm. You play the flashback directly — a guided sequence that doubles as the combat tutorial.
  2. Fight alongside Sephiroth as a temporary ally. Use this chapter to learn Z-targeting equivalents: hold to guard, dodge to reposition, and spend ATB on abilities and spells.
  3. Climb Mt. Nibel to the Mako reactor. The path is linear — follow it, fighting the dragon and the mountain's fiends.
  4. Inside the reactor, the story's defining tragedy plays out. Sephiroth reads the truth of Jenova and the SOLDIER program in the reactor's pods, and Nibelheim burns. This flashback frames everything Rebirth is chasing.
  5. Back in the present at Kalm, the party sets out. The real journey — and the open world — begins next chapter.
Boss Materia Guardian Mt. Nibel reactor

A tutorial-era mechanical boss. Keep your guard up against its heavy slams.

Top up before: Rest at a bench or use a tent, refresh your materia loadout, and top up Potions/Phoenix Downs before the encounter.

Materia Guardian
SummaryA four-legged Shinra guardian. Stay mobile, strike its legs and core during openings, and burst it once Pressured. Cast Assess (or check the foe) to read its current weakness, then match it — exploiting a weakness causes Pressure and builds the Stagger gauge far faster.

Where to heal: Heal between phases with Cure or Potions.

Easier tactic: Target its weak points and punish the recovery after its big telegraphed attacks; Cast Assess (or check the foe) to read its current weakness, then match it — exploiting a weakness causes Pressure and builds the Stagger gauge far faster.

Reward: Clears the Nibelheim flashback and opens the present-day journey.

Chapter 2

A New Journey Begins

First open regionChadley / World IntelChocobo catchingQueen's Blood
Objectives
  1. Leave Kalm and enter the open Grasslands
  2. Meet Chadley and unlock the World Intel system
  3. Activate the first Remnawave Tower to reveal the map
  4. Catch the Grasslands chocobo at the Chocobo Ranch
  5. Learn Queen's Blood and start building a deck

Golden path

  1. From Kalm, head into the Grasslands — the first and gentlest of the open regions. Chadley contacts you and unlocks the World Intel map; this template repeats in every region.
  2. Activate the region's Remnawave Tower first. Each tower reveals the surrounding map and flags the nearby World Intel activities, so towers always come first when you reach a new region.
  3. Visit the Chocobo Ranch and complete the catching minigame to tame the Grasslands chocobo — your fast traversal mount, with a region-specific gimmick in every later area.
  4. Sit down for your first game of Queen's Blood at the ranch or in Kalm. Win matches to take opponents' cards and grow your deck — it becomes one of the game's deepest side activities.
  5. Push the main story toward the Mythril Mine when you're ready. Clear as much Grasslands World Intel as you like first — you can always fast-travel back.
Boss Midgardsormr Grasslands marsh

The first real open-region wall. Bring ranged options for when it rears or submerges.

Top up before: Rest at a bench or use a tent, refresh your materia loadout, and top up Potions/Phoenix Downs before the encounter.

Midgardsormr
SummaryA colossal serpent. Punish its lunges and tail sweeps, exploit its lightning weakness to build Pressure, and unload during Stagger. Cast Assess (or check the foe) to read its current weakness, then match it — exploiting a weakness causes Pressure and builds the Stagger gauge far faster.

Where to heal: Retreat to the marsh edge and heal; the arena is large.

Easier tactic: Lightning pressures it well — hit it as it surfaces and after its tail sweeps, then burst on stagger.

Reward: Marks your arrival as a serious threat in the Grasslands.

Objectives
  1. Cross the Mythril Mine
  2. Deal with the Turks on your trail
  3. Emerge into the Junon region

Golden path

  1. Enter the Mythril Mine — a linear story dungeon after the open Grasslands. Follow the path and clear the fiends blocking the way.
  2. The Turks complicate the crossing. Handle the encounters and keep moving toward the far exit.
  3. Emerge on the far side into the Junon region, opening the next stretch of open world in the following chapter.
Boss Mythril Golem Mythril Mine

A heavy stone construct — durable but slow.

Top up before: Rest at a bench or use a tent, refresh your materia loadout, and top up Potions/Phoenix Downs before the encounter.

Mythril Golem
SummaryA lumbering golem with telegraphed slams. Dodge, exploit its weakness, and burst it down while Staggered. Cast Assess (or check the foe) to read its current weakness, then match it — exploiting a weakness causes Pressure and builds the Stagger gauge far faster.

Where to heal: Keep one healer's ATB in reserve for its big swings.

Easier tactic: Exploit its elemental weakness to Pressure it, then stagger and focus fire; Cast Assess (or check the foe) to read its current weakness, then match it — exploiting a weakness causes Pressure and builds the Stagger gauge far faster.

Reward: Clears the path through the Mythril Mine toward Junon.

Dawn of a New Era

Junon regionThe paradeCosta del Sol ship
Objectives
  1. Explore the open Junon region (towers, intel, chocobo)
  2. Reach Junon and infiltrate the city
  3. Take part in the Shinra parade
  4. Board the ship bound for Costa del Sol

Golden path

  1. Drop into the Junon region. As always, light the Remnawave Tower first, then sweep Chadley's intel and tame the region chocobo (each region's mount has its own traversal trick).
  2. Make your way to Junon itself. The lower town and the great cannon-city above hold the chapter's story beats.
  3. Take part in the Shinra parade — a set-piece march with a rhythm/timing element. Do your best, but the story continues regardless of your score.
  4. Board the ship to Costa del Sol. Wrap up any Junon World Intel before you sail — you'll return, but it's cleanest to clear regions as you go.
Boss Terror of the Deep Under Junon

Rebirth's take on the classic Bottomswell. It snatches party members out of the fight.

Top up before: Rest at a bench or use a tent, refresh your materia loadout, and top up Potions/Phoenix Downs before the encounter.

Terror of the Deep
SummaryA water beast that grabs and isolates your party. Use Lightning to Pressure it, free trapped allies immediately, and unload when Staggered. Cast Assess (or check the foe) to read its current weakness, then match it — exploiting a weakness causes Pressure and builds the Stagger gauge far faster.

Where to heal: Free grabbed allies fast, then regroup and heal.

Easier tactic: Lightning hits it hard. Watch for the whirl that traps a character — break them out, then burst during stagger.

Reward: Opens the way onward from Under Junon.
Boss Roche Junon area

A SOLDIER rival who fights as a one-on-one motorcycle duel.

Top up before: Rest at a bench or use a tent, refresh your materia loadout, and top up Potions/Phoenix Downs before the encounter.

Roche
SummaryA fast, aggressive duellist. Block or evade his dashing strikes, counter the recovery, and ramp Stagger with quick combos. Cast Assess (or check the foe) to read its current weakness, then match it — exploiting a weakness causes Pressure and builds the Stagger gauge far faster.

Where to heal: It's a duel — manage your own ATB and guard timing.

Easier tactic: Parry or dodge his charges and punish the overextension; keep the pressure on to stagger him.

Reward: A flashy duel; he returns for a rematch later.

  1. Cross the sea aboard the disguised Shinra ship
  2. Deal with the threat that surfaces during the voyage
  3. Arrive at Costa del Sol

Golden path

  1. Board the Shinra cargo ship in disguise. This is a linear story chapter — explore the decks and play out the shipboard events.
  2. Partway across the Meridian Ocean, a threat surfaces below decks. A Jenova encounter caps the voyage — treat it as a proper boss and exploit its stagger windows.
  3. The ship docks at Costa del Sol, opening the resort and the Corel region next chapter.
Boss Jenova Emergent Shinra cargo ship

A Jenova form that caps the sea voyage and shifts its elemental affinity.

Top up before: Rest at a bench or use a tent, refresh your materia loadout, and top up Potions/Phoenix Downs before the encounter.

Jenova Emergent
SummaryA shapeshifting Jenova fight. Its affinity rotates, so re-check the weakness each phase, cleanse status effects, and exploit Stagger windows. Cast Assess (or check the foe) to read its current weakness, then match it — exploiting a weakness causes Pressure and builds the Stagger gauge far faster.

Where to heal: Heal through its area attacks; keep a reviver ready.

Easier tactic: It changes weakness between phases — re-Assess often and match the element, then burst on stagger.

Reward: Ends the voyage and lands you at Costa del Sol.

  2. Take on the park's signature minigames
  3. Welcome Cait Sith to the party

Golden path

  1. Enter the Gold Saucer, the neon amusement park. It is the densest minigame hub in the game — chocobo racing, 3D Brawler, Galactic Saviors, and more.
  2. Cait Sith joins the party here, adding a unique playstyle built around summoning a giant moogle and dice-roll mechanics.
  3. Play the attractions and progress the story. You'll return to the Saucer for a major later chapter, so you needn't 100% it now.
Boss Dyne Corel Prison

A tragic gunner duel tied to Barret's past.

Top up before: Rest at a bench or use a tent, refresh your materia loadout, and top up Potions/Phoenix Downs before the encounter.

Dyne
SummaryA ranged duellist who zones with gunfire. Weave through his shots, punish at close range, and finish during Stagger. Cast Assess (or check the foe) to read its current weakness, then match it — exploiting a weakness causes Pressure and builds the Stagger gauge far faster.

Where to heal: Keep moving to avoid his ranged barrages, then close the gap.

Easier tactic: Dodge his gunfire and grenades, close in during reloads, and stagger him with sustained pressure.

Golden path

  1. Enter the Gongaga region — a dense, vertical jungle. Traversal uses bouncing mushroom springboards; the region's tower and intel are tucked into the canopy.
  2. Catch the Gongaga chocobo (it uses the mushrooms to reach high ledges) and work Chadley's World Intel.

An undead boss in the cave beneath Cosmo Canyon.

Top up before: Rest at a bench or use a tent, refresh your materia loadout, and top up Potions/Phoenix Downs before the encounter.

Gi Nattak
SummaryAn undead spirit: turn its own weakness against it by casting healing magic at it, exploit Fire, and stagger to finish. Cast Assess (or check the foe) to read its current weakness, then match it — exploiting a weakness causes Pressure and builds the Stagger gauge far faster.

Where to heal: Heal normally — but remember healing magic damages the undead.

Easier tactic: As an undead, it takes damage from Cure/Raise — cast healing ON the boss, and lean on Fire to Pressure it.

Reward: Resolves Red XIII's homecoming arc.

Golden path

  1. Enter the Temple of the Ancients, a shape-shifting dungeon of spatial puzzles. Take it room by room and watch how the geometry changes around you.
  2. The temple stacks several boss encounters back to back — manage MP and ATB carefully and lean on staggers.
  3. The temple's events set the stage for the journey's most painful turn at the Forgotten Capital. Steel yourself — and stock revives and healing — before the final chapter.

Chapter 14

End of the World

Forgotten CapitalFinaleMulti-phase bosses
Objectives
  1. Reach the Forgotten Capital
  2. Survive the climactic multi-phase battles
  3. See the journey's end — and its cliffhanger

Golden path

  1. Reach the Forgotten Capital. This chapter is almost entirely story and boss battles — come fully stocked with Phoenix Downs, Hi-Potions, and a tuned materia loadout.
  2. Fight through the multi-phase finale. The closing battles escalate through several forms and party splits; keep at least one reviver and one healer per group.
  3. Rebirth ends on a deliberately ambiguous, emotional note that sets up the trilogy's final part. Save a clear-data file for the post-game and hard-mode content.
Boss Jenova Lifeclinger Forgotten Capital

The penultimate Jenova form in the finale.

Top up before: Rest at a bench or use a tent, refresh your materia loadout, and top up Potions/Phoenix Downs before the encounter.

Jenova Lifeclinger
SummaryA multi-phase Jenova fight with shifting affinities and heavy AoE. Re-check the weakness each phase, keep a reviver ready, and lean on Synergy Abilities. Cast Assess (or check the foe) to read its current weakness, then match it — exploiting a weakness causes Pressure and builds the Stagger gauge far faster.

Where to heal: Bring full consumables — the finale runs long with no easy resupply.

Easier tactic: It rotates weaknesses and unleashes wide attacks — re-Assess each phase, cleanse status, and chain Synergy Abilities to extend staggers.

Reward: Opens the final confrontation.
Boss Sephiroth Reborn Forgotten Capital

The multi-phase final battle, including party splits across groups.

Top up before: Rest at a bench or use a tent, refresh your materia loadout, and top up Potions/Phoenix Downs before the encounter.

Sephiroth Reborn
SummaryAn escalating, multi-phase duel with Sephiroth that splits your party across battles. Manage each group's healing and revives, exploit Stagger, and unleash Limits and Synergy Abilities in his final forms. Cast Assess (or check the foe) to read its current weakness, then match it — exploiting a weakness causes Pressure and builds the Stagger gauge far faster.

Where to heal: There's no healing between phases beyond your own kit — stock revives for every group.

Easier tactic: Keep at least one reviver and one healer in each party split; exploit every Stagger and save Limits/Synergy for his most dangerous forms.

Reward: The journey's end — and its trilogy-bridging cliffhanger.
